Draft, waiting for legal review. It will change before Tierline’s public launch.

Privacy policy

Last updated October 4, 2026

What Tierline keeps about you, why, who helps us run it, and what you can do about it. Tierline is a product of Tandem (“we”).

What we keep

  • Your account: your name, your work email, your company’s name, and your password, stored only as a one-way hash.
  • Your settings: your company’s states and categories, your briefing’s settings, and the brands, suppliers and distributors you follow.
  • Your team: the people on your company’s account, and the email addresses an owner or admin invites. People on the account see each other’s names and email addresses.
  • Labels you share: the addresses you send them to, the subject and your note, kept with your account, to hold the daily limits that stop Tierline being used to send mail people didn’t ask for.
  • Your briefings: a record of each one sent to you, kept 90 days.
  • Billing: if your company pays for a plan, Stripe takes the card and we never see it. We keep which plan you’re on, whether it’s paid, and Stripe’s reference for your company.
  • Security: for each sign-in, and each request for an email (a code, a reset link, an invitation), a one-way hash of the email address and of the network address it came from, kept a day (30 days for a sign-in that worked), to stop password guessing and email abuse.
  • Your activity in Tierline, for security and support: when you sign in and out, and sign-ins that fail (with the email address typed, never the password); the pages you open, with what they show (the states, dates and filters in the page’s address); what you search for; the questions you ask in Ask; changes to your settings, watchlist, briefing, company, team and plan; and labels you share or download. Kept 13 months, then deleted.
  • Where and on what you use Tierline, for security and to protect paid seats: with each sign-in and each page you open, the network address it came from, the approximate place it points to (a city, region and country, from our hosting provider), and the kind of device and browser (“Chrome on Windows”). Kept 13 months with the record of your activity, then deleted. We use it to keep each person’s sign-in their own: a person can be signed in on two devices at once, and an account used from places too far apart at once is looked at by us.

The people at Tandem who run Tierline can see accounts (names, email addresses, companies and plans) to support you and keep it running. Only Tandem’s administrators can see the record of your activity and your Ask conversations, and each time one of them looks, that is recorded too.

Cookies and your browser

  • One cookie keeps you signed in. Only our server can read it, and 30 days without a visit signs you out.
  • If you sign up, a second cookie keeps the name and company you typed until you confirm your email, for a day at most.
  • The labels you pick, and how you like to share them, are kept in your own browser until you share or clear them.
  • No advertising or analytics cookies, and nothing that follows you to other sites.

Email

We send email only when someone asks for it: your sign-up code or a reset link when you request one, an invitation when your team sends one, labels when a colleague shares them with you, and your briefing if you turn it on. Briefings and shared labels carry no tracking pixels, and their links aren’t rewritten to follow your clicks. Every briefing has a one-click unsubscribe.

The market data

Tierline’s market data is public records: TTB’s label approvals and permit list, and the brand registrations states publish. They’re about companies and their brands, but some name people, such as a permit holder who trades under their own name. We show them as the public record does and link to the source. To ask about a record that names you, write to hello@tandem.bi.

Ask

When you ask a question, it goes to our AI provider, whose AI model writes the answer, with the conversation’s last few questions and answers and the public market data Tierline looks up for it. Your conversations are kept with your account until you delete them, and while they’re kept, Tandem’s administrators can read them, for security and support. Each question also leaves a record without its words (when, and how much it cost to answer), which holds Ask’s daily limits and, with the record of your activity, stays when you delete a conversation; the words go with it. Answers can be wrong: check anything you rely on before you act on it. Leave personal or confidential details out of your questions.

Who helps us run it

Each of these gets only what its part of the work needs:

  • Our database provider keeps your account, your settings and everything listed above, in the United States.
  • Vercel hosts the site and the app, and keeps logs of requests, including network addresses, for a limited time.
  • SendGrid sends our email.
  • Stripe takes payments, if your company pays for a plan.
  • Our AI provider writes Ask’s answers, when you ask.

We don’t sell or rent your information, use it for advertising, or give it to anyone else.

Your choices

  • Change or switch off your briefing in Settings, or with one click from any briefing.
  • Change your name and password on your account page, and your company’s states in Settings.
  • To get a copy of what we hold about you, to correct it, or to close your account and delete it, write to hello@tandem.bi. Closing your account deletes it, and what’s kept with it, from our database, except the record of your activity, which is kept for the rest of its 13 months for security and then deleted.

Changes

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
